Our level 2 gym instructor course is designed to equip you with the skills to thrive in a dynamic fitness environment. It covers the core principles of fitness and how to effectively tailor workout sessions based on your clients’ needs and goals. You’ll learn from our experienced tutors to gain the practical skills and theoretical knowledge you need in a fitness environment.
Topics covered on the course include:
- The components, principles, and variables of fitness: understand the benefits of physical activity, and the importance of nutrition and a balanced diet.
- Anatomy and physiology: the cardiovascular system, muscle groups and muscle movements, and how this relates to exercise and health, including postural and core stability.
- Client excellence: how to provide ongoing customer services, and how to support clients to adhere to exercise/physical activity
- Health, safety, and welfare in a fitness environment: how to maintain health and safety at all times, including the safeguarding of children and vulnerable adults
- Plan and prepare a gym-based exercise programme: develop the skills to plan a safe and effective gym session and workout plan involving various gym equipment, free weights and exercises

The level 2 gym instructor course contains 6 mandatory units (24 CPD credits):Level 2 Course Units
Unit 1 – Principles of health and wellbeing for exercise, fitness and health
Unit 2 – Anatomy, physiology and kinesiology for exercise and health
Unit 3 – Know how to support clients lifestyle management and enhance client motivation for exercise and physical activity
Unit 4 – Principles for professional practice and health and safety in a fitness environment
Unit 5 – Planning professional practice with effective consultations and assessments for gym-based exercise sessions
Unit 6 – Instructing professional practice and effective exercise supervision in gym-based exercise sessions
To complete each unit you’ll complete coursework and physical training sessions to develop your knowledge and skills. Blended learning and fast-track study options also include a practical weekend workshop to support your practical assessment.
The Level 2 Fitness / Gym Instructor course assessment depends on the study method you choose.
